Our Projects

Community Garden

During the summer we work with Marketview Heights Collective Action Project on their community garden at 155 First Street (just north of Central Park). During the summer, Pastor Earlando and a few others join the volunteers just about every Saturday to help tend the garden and pick produce that gets distributed for free to neighbors. This is a great way to connect with community members, and to serve in a practical way. We’ve also been working to spread the word among community members who don’t know about the garden. Pastor Earlando has taken some veggies to folks who he has met on his prayer walks. In 2022 half of the proceeds from our inaugural golf tournament wen to help buy a new tool shed for the garden!

Prayer Walks

Pastor Earlando, Rev. Lynn, and sometimes some others do a prayer walk in the neighborhood just about every Saturday afternoon. We’re all about building relationships, and there’s no way to do that, but be in the community meeting people! Many folks are very happy to be prayed for and pray with us.

Community Resource Center

For quite a while our mid-to-long-term goal has been to start a Resource Center in the neighborhood. We plan to start out simple with some resources like a printer and web access for those who might not have it. We’d like to provide help with job searches and resume writing, and perhaps at some point financial literacy classes or similar scheduled events. We know that a similar resource center became quite popular in the area until it lost funding a few years ago, so we believe there would be lots of interest! As we continue to meet community members, we learn the needs, and our goal is to be a go-to spot that can guide folks to the resources they need, and provide what aid we can directly. We want to create this as a sacred space, where people can not only get their physical needs met, but also gain spiritual resources.
